Lovebox – Paul Kalkbrenner – Aaron

23 07 2013

So, on the 21st July 2013, I was once again privileged to be in the presence of the one and only, big bald, Paul Kalkbrenner. I was given this experience via the festival Lovebox situated in Victoria Park, centred in the east end of London. It was a most enjoyable event displaying real vibrancy, raw enthusiasm, without the crowd and performance schedule pressures encountered at some festivals. It was very relaxed, chilled, you could meander from tent to tent and allowing the various artists to capture you with their ambient sounds and deep bass. Other than the great Kalkbenner, some other notable acts were Kim Ann Foxman, Miss Kittin and Solomun. Kalkbrenner was awesome as ever, enjoy his closing track of the set: “Aaron”.

Kollektiv Turmstrasse – Altona Connection

17 06 2013

There are those special sounds, special emotions that only those special musical artists can unearth. They always draw you back and shower you in a untouched, sanctified, innocent, glossing, compelling you to believe that is the first time you have heard such a sound. Kollektiv Turmstrasse is one of these sounds, they always seem to enthral and excite. When listening to a song such as “Altona Connection”, there is a depth, a thick abyss that swoops you into it, twisting and turning. You could sit, listen and understand. Or, you could get on your feet and allow your body to dip and weave to the unnerving, continuous throbbing, forcing you into a trance of ferocious movement and joy. Dark and all-encompassing, it certainly won’t disappoint.

Fritz Kalkbrenner – Facing The Sun

6 06 2013

Think summer; think sunshine, think sunglasses, think sun cream. Fortunately, in London town the sun has come out to play. Unfortunately for me, I have tonsillitis and am stuck in my steamy cesspit that is my bed… However I have somehow been able to wrench the gloriousness of the sunshine outside, inside. You ask how? Fritz Kalkbrenner’s – Facing The Sun has made my current predicament far more encouraging, its upbeat rhythm and melodic tones serenade. So, if you are in the sun then play this, slip and sink into this smooth sound of summer.

From the album “Here Today Gone Tomorrow”.

A Guy Called Gerald – How Long Is Now

17 03 2013

A 3-track EP straight out of Berlin from one of the greatest legends of House Music – A Guy Called Gerald.

‘A1 gives the title to the EP and it’s subliminal dark and psychedelic after-hours dope session, while on B1 there’s the shady and sexy atmosphere of “Groove of the Ghetto”, a driving and funky house tune sustained by an ultra fat synth bass and enriched by soulful vocals and deep pads, while on B2 the EP ends wih the brutal Uk bass bonus beats monster entitled “202”.’

Kollektiv Turmstrasse – Tristesse

11 03 2013

A beautiful minimal tech-house track that will send your mind into a blissful trance. I recommend listening to this song in darkness, closing your eyes and letting your imagination run wild.

Released in 2007 by the Hamburg duo Kollektiv Turmstrasse on Connaisseur Records.
