Successful Alcoholics by Jordan Vogt-Roberts

19 08 2013

After a few weeks of deep beats and dark bars, I felt the Chive needed a bit of perking up. This little bit of light relief has manifested itself in the form of Jordan Vogt-Roberts’, Successful Alcoholics. This film is truly hilarious! The two leads played by TJ Miller and Lizzy Caplan really shine and as an audience you not only side with them but almost too believe that alcoholism could in the right circumstances, be a viable way of living. Eccentric and jocular, bizarre but brilliant, crack open a nice cold alcoholic beverage and enjoy this convivial cinematic experience.

The Duel at Blood Creek by Leo Burton

27 06 2013

Traditionally English, entertaining and funny! For the duration as an audience, you are truly enticed and watch ravenously. It is very simple, shot over two days, with two DSLR’s this short really demonstrations what can be done with little time and little resources. The lack of complexity allows the basics to really shine, fantastic characterization combined with great acting, the narrative with its little twists keep us interested and wait for the ending. It truly makes me want to visit Blood Creek to really understand the history! Executed professionally, hilarious, a joy to watch!

Long Branch by Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart

7 04 2013

This film intrigued by its name, Long Branch reminded me of the music producer “Long Arm” and his phenomenal album “The Branches”. Please see :https://theartchiveproject.wordpress.com/2013/02/26/long-arm-when-children-sleep/ for more on Long Arm.

However, I did not want to post this film for its title. Through “Long Branch” a typical situation that I think everyone has been in arises. It is the long monotonous journey to return home on a night out in an attempt to partake in the act of a one-night stand. A burning desire sparks the beginning of the trip, but as it wears on intensity and lust begin to subside. Yet, “Long Branch” so subtly replaces this animalistic urge with a feeling of bubbly romance. Endearing and playful we view the blossoming of love.
