Paradise Circus – Massive Attack (Gui Boratto Remix)

25 08 2013

A Gui Borrato remix of a Massive Attack classic. Follow the eerie vocal line as it weaves its way through a tension-filled backdrop of pulsing bass lines and high-pitched synths. Minimalist with a not-so-minimalist impact.

Jonas Mantey – Sie ist Schön

9 08 2013

For those who read the Artchive and realise that that tonight is the time. The weekend has come once again to explain what it is to enjoy music. So wherever you are heading just keep in mind that tonight will be divine. Don’t allow yourself to be confined but live life to the full, meet and greet all new potential people. Feel the rhythm, feel the beat and unleash onto the street sheer bliss. For this is when we are young and free and can be what we want to be. One bit of advice that I hope you will consider before you bundle out of your home, allow the music of Jonas Mantey to mesmersie and engulf you. Give in and allow it fill you to the brim, to surface undisturbed, to simmer. Then relinquish your insecruties, unshackle your inadequacies and enter the night for she is beautiful.

Fritz Kalkbrenner – Facing The Sun

6 06 2013

Think summer; think sunshine, think sunglasses, think sun cream. Fortunately, in London town the sun has come out to play. Unfortunately for me, I have tonsillitis and am stuck in my steamy cesspit that is my bed… However I have somehow been able to wrench the gloriousness of the sunshine outside, inside. You ask how? Fritz Kalkbrenner’s – Facing The Sun has made my current predicament far more encouraging, its upbeat rhythm and melodic tones serenade. So, if you are in the sun then play this, slip and sink into this smooth sound of summer.

From the album “Here Today Gone Tomorrow”.

Lusine – Two Dots (Nic Fanciulli Remix)

16 04 2013

I find there’s something indescribably comforting in listening to this great remix by Nic Fanciulli. The lyrics, abstract and open to interpretation, are as follows – ‘two dots, joined by a line, they reached, detached by a crime. How mis-responsible, when the line is stretched, how mis-responsible, when it becomes a triangle’.  Feel free to comment with any insights you may have.

Something in the Air – Maya Jane Coles

14 04 2013

A mellow house track from Maya Jane Cole’s ‘Don’t Put Me in Your Box’ EP. Initially it’s easy to be deceived by its gentle softness and minimal construction, yet as you fall under its spell you’ll soon notice the dark underlying tension which hits you like a right hook to the jaw. Beautifully eerie, you can imagine yourself discovering an underwater Atlantis with only a flashlight.

Klangkarussell – Netzwerk

9 04 2013
‘ Love and hate are just two sides of the same coin. But with love something very drastic has happened. It is unimaginable how this drastic step was taken by people who had all the good intentions in the world. You may never have expected what has destroyed love. It is the continuous teaching of love that has destroyed it. Hate is still pure. Love is not. When you hate, your hate has an authenticity. When you love, it is only hypocrisy. This has to be understood. For thousands of years, all the religions, politicians, pedagogues have been teaching one thing, and that one thing is love. Love your enemy. Love your neighbour. Love your parents. Love God.
Why in the beginning did they start this strange series of teachings around love? They were afraid of your authentic love. Because authentic love is beyond your control. You are possessed by it. You are not the possessor, you are the possessed. And the society wants you to be under control. The society is afraid of your wild nature. It is afraid of your naturalness. So from the very beginning it starts cutting your wings. And the most basic thing that is dangerous in you is the possibility of love. Because if you are possessed by love, you can go even against the whole world.’  Osho
So through the teaching of love, we’re forced to try to love rather than letting it come to us naturally, making it lack in sincerity. Personally, I think he’s wrong about why the teachings of love originated – surely those with the full capacity to love authentically wanted to pass it on and teach it to others, rather than using it as a controlling device against us. Maybe it’s the absence of love,  derived from its teaching, that has become the controlling mechanism, and if so how do we rectify it?

Paul Kalkbrenner – Mad World

2 04 2013

Following Paul Kalkbrenner’s spectacular performance at The Roundhouse on Friday, it would be rude not to pay tribute to big bald Kalk with one of the highlights of his set.

Kalk had the audience captivated, ceremoniously rising and falling in perfect unity to his constant rhythm, reverberating through the venue. What impressed me the most was the subtlety with which he blended his notoriously powerful bass drum with soft ambient overtones. Dates to his upcoming events can be found on the following link:

A Guy Called Gerald – How Long Is Now

17 03 2013

A 3-track EP straight out of Berlin from one of the greatest legends of House Music – A Guy Called Gerald.

‘A1 gives the title to the EP and it’s subliminal dark and psychedelic after-hours dope session, while on B1 there’s the shady and sexy atmosphere of “Groove of the Ghetto”, a driving and funky house tune sustained by an ultra fat synth bass and enriched by soulful vocals and deep pads, while on B2 the EP ends wih the brutal Uk bass bonus beats monster entitled “202”.’

Télépopmusik – Breathe

9 03 2013

On this murky Saturday morning riddled with bed-confining hangovers and nauseating comedowns, listening to music probably won’t be at the top of your agenda. However, this song has magical healing powers beyond human comprehension – the Jesus equivalent of ambient electronica, Just Breathe.
